Biblical Business Principles: Building a Company
That Honors God

What does the Bible actually have to say about building and leading a business?

Scripture isn't a modern business textbook. It doesn't give us formulas for marketing, organizational charts, pricing, or strategic planning.
But it gives us something more foundational: truth about God, identity, purpose, people, stewardship, leadership, wisdom, work, money, integrity, and what ultimately matters.
These biblical business principles can profoundly shape how a Christian business owner or CEO builds and leads a company.
At Building A Kingdom Company (BKC), we believe Christian business principles aren't simply Christian values added to an otherwise conventional business. As biblical truth increasingly shapes the whole company, these principles become part of what we mean by Kingdom business principles—building and leading in faithful partnership with Father.

Biblical Business Principles Begin With God

One of the greatest shifts for a Christian business owner is recognizing that the business ultimately isn't ours.
“The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
That changes the posture of leadership.
Instead of seeing ourselves only as owners building something for ourselves, we begin to see ourselves as stewards of something Father has entrusted to us.
And stewardship raises a different question:
Father, what are You building—and how can I faithfully participate?
From that foundation, several biblical business principles begin shaping the company.

Biblical & Kingdom Business Principles for Building a Company

Presence before plans.
Jesus said He did what He saw His Father doing (John 5:19). Kingdom business begins by learning to listen, discern, and build with Father rather than merely asking Him to bless our plans.
Identity before assignment.
Who we are influences how we lead. Romans 8 describes believers as sons and daughters led by the Spirit. Leadership increasingly flows from our identity in Father rather than fear, striving, performance, or the need to prove ourselves.
Purpose beyond profit.
Profitability matters. Without financial health, a business cannot sustainably serve customers, employ people, invest, give, or grow. But profit isn't the ultimate purpose. We also ask:
What has Father entrusted this company to accomplish?
People have God-given value.
Employees, customers, suppliers, and partners aren't merely resources or transactions. Biblical leadership recognizes the dignity and value of people and influences how we lead, serve, develop, honor, and hold one another accountable.
Stewardship rather than ownership.
Time, capital, opportunities, relationships, influence, and resources are entrusted to us. Biblical stewardship asks how faithfully we're using what we've been given.
Excellence as stewardship.
Faith isn't an excuse for mediocre business. Strong strategy, financial discipline, healthy systems, good leadership, customer service, innovation, and effective execution can all become expressions of faithful stewardship.
Build what lasts.
In 1 Corinthians 3:12–15, Paul reminds us that what we build—and what we build with—matters. Kingdom success therefore considers not only what a company produces, but also the people, culture, influence, fruit, and legacy being built along the way.
These Kingdom business principles aren't meant to remain theological ideas. They should increasingly influence the way the company is actually led and built.

Christian Business Principles Must Become Business Practices

Christian business principles matter most when they move beyond statements on a wall and begin influencing real decisions.
  • How do we hire and develop people?
  • How do we treat customers?
  • How do we respond when integrity costs us something?
  • How do we use profit?
  • How do we handle conflict?
  • How do we pursue growth?
  • How do we define success?
  • How do we respond when what seems financially attractive may not align with what Father is asking us to build?
This is where biblical conviction begins becoming Kingdom company culture and practice.
BKC believes biblical truth and excellent business practice belong together.
We listen and analyze. We pray and plan. We discern and execute.
Excellence is stewardship.

From Biblical Business Principles to a Kingdom Company

Applying biblical business principles to your company is important.
But BKC invites Christian owners and CEOs to explore an even larger question:
What would it look like for the entire company to increasingly reflect Father's heart and purposes?
That's where Kingdom business principles become more than a collection of good practices. They begin shaping the company's purpose, leadership, culture, strategy, and stewardship.
That's part of the difference between simply being a Christian who owns a business and intentionally Building A Kingdom Company.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are biblical business principles?
Biblical business principles are truths and principles drawn from Scripture that can shape how Christians think about leadership, purpose, people, money, stewardship, integrity, work, and the responsibilities of building a business.
Are Christian business principles and Kingdom business principles the same thing?
The terms are often used interchangeably. At BKC, Christian business principles generally describe biblical truths applied to business. Kingdom business principles point toward something broader: increasingly building the entire company—its purpose, leadership, culture, strategy, and stewardship—in faithful partnership with Father.
Does the Bible provide a specific model for running a business?
No. Scripture doesn't prescribe a modern business model. It provides foundational truths and wisdom that can inform how Christian leaders make decisions and steward their companies while still applying sound business knowledge and practices.
What's the difference between a Christian-owned business and a Kingdom company?
Christian ownership describes the faith of the owner. A Kingdom company goes further by intentionally seeking to align its purpose, leadership, culture, strategy, and stewardship with what the owner discerns Father has entrusted the company to build.
Can biblical business principles work in a competitive marketplace?
Biblical principles don't remove competition or normal business realities. Christian owners still need excellent products and services, sound strategy, financial discipline, effective leadership, and strong execution. The difference is the foundation and purpose from which those practices are pursued.
