BUILT TO LAST: WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING WITH?

​In the construction of God’s Kingdom, not all materials are created equal. Some works shine with eternal significance - others smolder into ash. In 1 Corinthians 3:12–13, Paul uses the image of a building project to prophetically warn and encourage Kingdom-minded leaders, entrepreneurs, and believers:

​“Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each one’s work will become evident; for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with fire…” 1 Corinthians 3:12–13 NASB

Jesus is the only true foundation. But how we build on Him will be tested - not by applause or performance metrics, but by the fire of heaven’s inspection.
 
Heaven’s Blueprints - The Builder’s Materials
 
Just as Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem's walls with purpose, and Zerubbabel laid the temple’s foundation in obedience, today’s Kingdom builders must discern the spiritual quality of their work. Are we building with what endures?

The Enduring Materials:
 
🔶 Gold - Symbolizes: God’s divine nature, eternal value, and tested faith.

Represents: Works born out of pure motives, obedience, and God’s glory. 
(1 Peter 1:7, Revelation 3:18).

Application: Your faithfulness in hidden places, your integrity in leadership, and your sacrifice in love are gold in the eyes of the King.

⚪ Silver - Symbolizes: Redemption, truth, and purity of speech.

Represents: Doctrinal clarity, prophetic truth, and words that heal.

Application: Every redemptive conversation, every proclamation of truth, and every act of intercession that aligns with God’s heart adds silver to the eternal structure.

💎 Precious Stones - Symbolizes: People transformed, disciples matured, the fruits of the Spirit.

Represents: The living legacy of those you’ve equipped, loved, and brought into alignment with Christ’s purpose (Malachi 3:17, Revelation 21).

Application: When you raise up sons and daughters in the Spirit, you’re setting jewels into the King’s crown.
 
The Inferior Materials:

🪵 Wood, Hay, Straw - Symbolize shallow, self-serving, or worldly works.

Represent impressive appearances that lack eternal weight.

Burn quickly in the refining fire—leaving no reward.

These may look productive in the natural - platforms, profits, popularity - but if not done from presence-based obedience and Kingdom alignment, they vanish.
 
Apostolic Charge - Build What Will Remain

In this era of Kingdom reformation, God is raising up Nehemiah builders and Zerubbabel leaders - those who will build according to the pattern shown in Heaven.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it…” Psalm 127:1

Let’s be found building not just for God but with God—laying down works that will withstand the fire, glorify Jesus, and remain for eternity.
 
Call to Action - Ask the Holy Spirit:

1) What am I building right now?

2) What materials am I using—by heaven’s standards?

3) What will remain when the fire comes?

It’s time to trade the temporary for the eternal. To lay our blueprints before the Lord and say:
 
“Only what You desire, Lord - let it be established.”
