“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” Matthew 28:18 Authority is one of the most misunderstood aspects of leadership. In many environments, authority is associated with control, power, or position. But in the Kingdom, authority does not flow from title — it flows from relationship. Before a father enforces boundaries, he provides covering. Before authority is exercised, trust is established. 🔷 WELCOME BACK In Week 4, we explored the Father’s model — how Jesus fathered His disciples through invitation, belonging, patience, and process. This week, we turn our attention to authority. In the Kingdom, authority is not asserted. It is entrusted. Jesus carried unquestionable authority, yet He never ruled through intimidation, fear, or coercion. His authority rested on alignment with the Father and love for those He led. 🔷 IN THE KINGDOM, AUTHORITY FLOWS FROM FATHERHOOD In the Kingdom, fatherhood is not a role — it is the maturity of sonship. Authority is not something a father takes. It is something others rest under. When authority is healthy:
1. COVERING — AUTHORITY THAT PROTECTS Covering is the first expression of a father’s authority. Before a father corrects or directs, he provides safety:
“I protected them and kept them safe.” — John 17:12 (paraphrased) A leader who provides covering absorbs pressure on behalf of others and takes responsibility when things go wrong. This is authority exercised for people — not over them. 2. BOUNDARIES — AUTHORITY THAT DEFINES HEALTH Boundaries are not limitations on love. They are expressions of love. Healthy fathers establish boundaries to:
“I seek not My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.” — John 5:30 Boundaries create clarity. Clarity builds trust. Trust allows authority to function without force. 3. TRUST — AUTHORITY THAT GROWS OVER TIME Trust is not automatic. It is built through consistency, integrity, and presence. Jesus entrusted authority to His disciples gradually — first to observe, then to participate, and eventually to lead. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” — Luke 16:10 Fathers release authority progressively, not prematurely. This protects both people and purpose. 🔷 COVERING, BOUNDARIES & TRUST — TOGETHER These three elements work together:
Fathered authority produces:
🔷 AUTHORITY AND THE STRATEGIC FOUNDATION Authority functions properly only when built on:
🔷 REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK
This week, take time to ask the Father:
The Father corrects to protect what He’s building. 🔷 A WORD TO BUILDERS — DON’T BUILD ALONE Authority is one of the easiest things to distort when walking alone. Healthy authority is formed through:
