You Can Build the Wrong Thing… Exceptionally Well

As this journey has continued, something foundational has been becoming increasingly clear:

Presence establishes the center.
Identity establishes who you are.
And once identity begins to stabilize…another question emerges:

What are you actually called to build?

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10

🔷 The Danger Few Leaders Recognize
Many leaders are not struggling because they lack effort.

They are struggling because they are carrying assignments that were never truly theirs to build.

And over time, even success can become exhausting…

when it is disconnected from alignment.

Because it is entirely possible to:

• build something impressive
• lead something respected
• grow something profitable

…and still be building outside your true assignment.


1) Why This Happens

Purpose is often shaped by:

• opportunity
• momentum
• expectation
• pressure
• fear of missing out

Instead of discernment.

And once something begins producing results…

it becomes very difficult to question whether it is truly aligned.

Especially for capable leaders.


2) Purpose Is Not Self-Created

In the Kingdom, purpose is not something leaders invent.

It is something they discern.

Ephesians 2:10 says:

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Notice the language carefully.

Not:

create them

But:

walk in them

That means:

• the assignment already exists,
• the grace already exists,
• and alignment comes through discernment—not striving.

3) Jesus Never Built From Opportunity Alone

Jesus did not respond to every need, demand, or opportunity around Him.

He moved from assignment.

In John 17:4, He said:

“I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”

Not:

everything that could be done

But:

what the Father gave Him to do

That distinction is critical.

Because leaders without clarity eventually begin carrying:

• too much
• too many directions
• too many expectations

And purpose becomes diluted by endless opportunity.


4) Why Clarity Matters

When purpose is unclear:

• activity increases
• complexity increases
• pressure increases

Because leaders are attempting to carry:

• every opportunity
• every expansion
• every expectation

But clarity simplifies leadership.

When leaders discern their true assignment:

• unnecessary activity begins to fall away
• decision-making becomes clearer
• energy becomes more focused

Not because leadership becomes smaller.

But because it becomes aligned.


5) Where Purpose Fits in the Foundation

In the Kingdom Company Strategic Foundation™:

👉 Purpose answers the question: What are we building?

But purpose only becomes clear when:

• Presence is central
• Identity is secure

Otherwise, leaders often build:

• from ambition instead of assignment,
• or from pressure instead of discernment.

6) The Hardest Part of Purpose
Most leaders do not resist purpose.

They resist release.

Because alignment often requires letting go of:

• good opportunities
• familiar structures
• successful distractions
• or identities tied to what was previously built

But every true assignment requires focus.

And focus always requires surrender.


7) What This Looks Like Practically

Leading with purpose means:

You no longer evaluate everything by:

• growth
• scale
• visibility
• or profitability alone

You begin asking:

Is this aligned?

Is grace actually on this?

Is this what the Father is asking us to build?

And over time, leaders learn something powerful:

What is truly assigned carries a different kind of life.

When purpose becomes aligned…

another question emerges:

Who is actually carrying this with you?

Because no Kingdom assignment was meant to be carried alone.

That is where we will go next.

Where might success be masking misalignment?

What are you currently carrying that may no longer be truly assigned?

And what might the Father be asking you to release…

so you can fully step into what He has actually prepared?
