God has given you authority and power to act in the industry you are positioned in. BKC EXISTS to help followers of Christ build great companies that glorify and advance the kingdom of God!
In our last newsletter, entitled "SALT OF THE WORLD" we learned that life's greatest challenge is in knowing what to do and the sad failure it is to be successful in the wrong assignment (read more).
In today's edition, entitled "SETTING PRIORITIES 2Q 2019" we discuss how to determine what we will be involved in each day and what keeps us in sync with the will of our heavenly Father for the daily tasks He calls us to?
Jesus tells us that He was only involved in those things the Father was involved in, nothing more - nothing less:
"Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does." (John 5:19)
So often we determine our participation in an activity based on whether we have the time to do it or whether we desire to participate.
The real question we should ask is, "Does the Father want me to participate in this activity?"
At BKC we teach our clients the idea of setting 90-day goals or priorities that we call “Rocks”. This helps them focus their “day” jobs around the most important things for the company and for each department.
During a full-day session we create these priorities and everyone gets in agreement on what the most important things are. Then each leader puts their head down and goes to work.
What Priorities Are You Spending Your Time On?
We want to make sure we are focusing on the top priorities during the day, the things that will take our organization, our department and ourselves to the next level. Work on the things that matter most, not the reactive non-priority work.
This illustration comes from Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Our Rocks need to be IMPORTANT-but-NOT-URGENT activities (Quadrant 2) that make urgent-and-important activities (Quadrant 1) melt away.
I find that most leaders and managers get sucked into Quadrant 1 activities, and they refer to that as their “day job.” These activities are just a reality of life. Most often this means they don’t have their processes and people set up to take care of those issues.
Remember, every system is perfectly designed to produce the results it produces. If you spend too much time in Quadrant 1, it’s time to change the system.
Set Rocks in Line with the Right Priorities!
When setting Rocks, make sure they are aligned with your seat on the Accountability Chart, your Roles, and your Measurables. They are intended to take you and your company to the next level and get all your numbers back on track.
If you can get all your Rocks aligned and avoid Quadrant 3 activities, limit Quadrant 4, and manage Quadrant 1, you will set yourself up to get what you want from your business and your life.
Ask the Lord each day how you and He are to spend your time. Yield your schedule to Him. Let the Holy Spirit direct your every activity.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jer. 29:11-13)
You may discover that He desires you to cut back some things in order to spend more time alone with Him. He will be faithful to show you. And you will become more fulfilled because you are centered in His will for you.
When your priorities are correct, you preserve and protect your life and your God intended DESTINY!
