In today's edition, entitled "THE HEDGEHOG AND THE FOX" we learn that the business world can be divided into two types. The “worldly” wily fox is cunning and knows many things, using various complex strategies to attack the hedgehog... 

Whereas the hedgehog is single-minded, like those who “Partner with Father” and only knows one wise thing - rolling up into a perfect sphere of sharp spikes to defend itself against the fox. Surprisingly, the stubborn hedgehog always wins despite the many different tactics the crafty fox uses.

​Core Focus Strategy 

In business strategy the Hedgehog Concept is developed in the book "Good to Great" by Jim Collins. It is not a goal to be the best, a strategy to be the best, an intention to be the best, or a plan to be the best. It is an understanding of “Who You Are” and for “What Purpose” – and sticking to it – a distinction that is absolutely crucial. BKC's Core Focus Strategy™ is defined as the sweet spot intersection of four circles:

1) What are you deeply passionate about? The idea is not to stimulate passion but to (re)discover what you love doing and focus on those activities. 

“Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” (Ps. 37:4 NIV) 
  
2) What can you be the best in the world at? (and, equally important what you can’t be the best at). If you can’t be great at your core business, then your core business can’t form the basis of your Core Focus Strategy. 

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2:10 NKJV) 

3) What drives your economic engine? This is about how to generate sustained and robust cash flow and profitability. Aim to discover a single driving denominator number or metric known as ‘Profit per X’, which has the greatest impact on your economics. 

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.” (Lk. 14:28 NKJV)

4) How best to implement your plan? It's all about execution and the real joy comes when a team aligned around your company’s vision, mission and values can focus on delivering your product or service to a world in need of what you have. 

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." (Col. 3:23-24 NIV)

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Mt. 6:33 NKJV) 

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Mic. 6:8 NIV)
